Preparing for GED
The GED test is prepared as such to test the skills of high school students. Getting help from outside is helpful for those who are not able to attend secondary school. Many adult schools provide GED classes helping you with the subjects and info you should know for GED test. Some centers provide teachers and counselors who are capable to help you with your weak subject areas and the portions that can help you score well. GED: The exam
The two essential points one should keep in mind while taking GED. First, you don’t have to give test for each section the very same day. Every section of the test takes one hour to complete; while the writing part will take two hrs. Taking all the section the same day can be tiring for most of the people. Even if know the content very well, it is not wise to take the test in a single day because it will be tough to focus on the whole paper, so one should divide the test in no of days to score well. The test format for GED certification
The test format for GED is exhaustive one that is designed to test your high school knowledge in all subjects you studied during higher secondary education. The GED test is divided into five parts, comprising specific no of questions which should be competed in given time frame. Read below to get to know about the pattern of exam, no of questions, time allocation for the various sections.
Section a Science
This section consists of 50 multiple choice question for which you will be given 80 minutes. The section will comprise questions from a wide range of topics that include topics from every arena of science. You will find Answers to most of the questions in the paper itself, in the form of graphs, chart, paragraph or other form. You have to analyze the data and facts given to answer most of the questions. But you require studying well to interpret and analyze the given facts and answer all the questions.
Section b Math
This section consists of 50 questions for which you will be allotted 90 minutes. In this section there are ranges of questions that are based on high school level math’s syllabus. This section consists of 2 parts, having 25 questions each. In one section you may use calculator, while the other section you have to complete with manual calculations. The model no. of the calculator that is allowed is a Casio fx-260; which is made available to you at the test center. Most of the questions have multiple choices, but some problems require shading your answer on an answer sheet.
Section c Language- Writing
For this section you will be provided two hours in which you have to answer 50 MCQs and write an essay. To answer 50 MCQ, you require sis for correction, revision, and changing the construction of the sentences. These types of questions will analyze your organizational skills, ability to pick correct words, phrases, and the basic knowledge of English language. A familiar topic will be there to write an essay, for which you will be given 45 min. to finish. Trained teachers will check and evaluate your essay on language skills like organizing the facts, statements supporting the facts, usage of your vocabulary, correct use of grammar and most important how you project you ideas.
Section d Language- Reading
This section comprises of 40 questions with time limit of 65 minutes. This section will test your knowledge in literary area which includes poetry, drama documents related to artists performance, non fictional passages. This will comprise 75% of the question paper in which you have to analyze, comprehend, decode themes, and extract information present in the passage.
Section e Social Studies
The time frame for this section is 70 minutes in which you have to answer 50 questions.This section consists of questions from economics, history, government policies and geography. The answers to most of the questions will be there in the paper itself, you just have to look for that information. The information may be in any form like maps, documents, pictures or figures. Therefore, you don’t need to learn a vast area to score good in this topic. It is more important to know how to decode and scrutinize the data given to score good in this section.
