MCITP Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Support Technician: The Topics which require extra attention

Most of the MCITP certification exam requires the examinee to pass two kinds of test. The first test is where the examinee will be tested in regards with his knowledge and skills to configure Windows 7. The second test is whether the examinee will have to sit for the actual MCITP Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Support Technician certification exam. The MCITP certification exam tests whether or not the examinee has the knowledge and skills related to understand the related field of Windows 7. The MCITP Windows 7 Enterprise Desktop Support Technician certification proves that the person is fit to get the role of Desktop Support Technician. Whilst preparing for this certification, there are many things in which the examinee must give their attention too. Configuration
One of the exam that the examinee has to give as a part of this certification is the Windows 7 configuration exam. In this part the examinee must be well prepared to configure hardware and applications, mobile computing, access to resources, backup and recovery options and network connectivity. The person should also pay attention to clean installation and upgrading of the Windows 7. The other thing that the examinee must pay attention are configuration of devices, Internet Explorer, application restriction, application compatibility, firewall, IPv6 network settings, IPv4 network settings, remote management, folder access, shared resources, authentication and authorization; remote connections, DirectAccess and so on.
Desktop application issues
Another topic that the examinee must pay attention to is the desktop application issues. This portion will cover 20% of the total exam. In this portion the examinee will have to focus on knowing how to install software and recover from software failure. Besides that there are other contents that have to be covered as well like knowing how to check whether the software runs in the safe mode or not, fulfill the requirement of local administrator, provide various kinds of permissions, repair installation if required, check the logs to find the root cause of problems, reimage and restore the system and so on.
Security issues
The examinee will also have to pay attention to various security issues that might arise in Windows 7. This issue covers about 18% of the total exam. He/she will have to pay extra attention to identifying the security issues and then resolving it. Most of these security issues revolve around Internet Explorer (IE), software storage and update. The examinee must be able to find the cause behind the security issues. Mostly these security issues are developed due to malicious software or program. The topics related to this issue are management of keys, addition of trusted sites, recovery of encryption keys, analysis of services, programs and processes; identification of whey the updates are incompatible with other programs.
Running of the client
The certification exam demands attention to the system that runs the client in Windows 7. This topic will cover about 21% of the total exam. The examinee must know how to manage and maintain the systems in which these clients run. They must focus on topics that are related to performance as well as hardware failure issues. Besides finding the cause of these issues they must also know how to resolve these issues. Some of the important topics that are related to these issues are determining the broken component, analyzing application logs and systems, identifying bad sectors, recommending which hardware is to be replaces, diagnosing memory issues, analyzing started services, setting power management, optimizing virtual memory, checking hard drive space, updating BIOS and so on.
Mobile users
The mobile user topic covers about 18% of the total exam. In this portion the examinee should focus on the support of the mobile users. This portion basically revolves around the remote access and wireless connectivity issues. So, these are the two issues that the examinee must give their extra attention. Some of the other topics that the examinee must focus on are wireless profiles, IPv6 support, encryption keys, VPN client connection, encryption types, authentication to the network; signal strength, mobile devices etc.
Network issues
The network issues cover the largest portion of the total exam which is a whopping 23%. The examinees must put their attention to finding the cause of the networking issues and knowing the method through which the issues can be solved without any problem. Network issues cover a vast ground. So, the examinee will have to focus on issues related to enterprise logon, network printer, network connection and name resolution. Some of the topics that they must give their extra attention to are checking the assigned DNS, finding the cause of network connection issues, checking nslookup to DNS server, default gateway, hardware failure, printer failure, driver issues, proxies, determining logon context, flushing the DNS cache and so on.
There are other general topics that the examinee must have to pay attention to as well. They must focus on understanding the issues that the Windows 7 often face. Besides finding out what kind of issues they are, the examinee must also focus on resolving the issues so that the Windows 7 and its clients can run without any hitch. They must give extra attention to knowing how to increase performance, backing up the data, configuring the Windows 7 so that it is fit for the system. Besides these, they must also focus on basic issues that are related to network, security, desktop application, client and mobile users. If they can successfully pay attention to all the above mentioned topics then they will be able to get good marks in the certification.
